Pelican Sequestration Hub

The Pelican Sequestration Hub is a Class VI CO2 storage project developed by Occidental (Pelican Sequestration Hub, LLC) in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, roughly 20 miles east of Baton Rouge in the Mississippi River Chemical Corridor. The project area covers about 30,900 acres of deep saline aquifer, with the area of investigation straddling the line between Livingston and St. Helena Parishes. Storage is anchored by an offtake agreement with Blue Point Number One, LLC (a CF Industries, JERA, and Mitsui joint venture) to sequester approximately 2.3 million metric tons per annum of CO2 over a 25-year period. The project comprises five permitted injection wells, Pelican CCS 1 through CCS 5 (Application Nos. 45079, 45080, 46169, 46170, and 46171), located along the eastern corridor of the acreage. Each well is designed for an injection rate of 2 million metric tons per year, and injection is planned for a 25-year duration. Injection targets the Oligocene lower Anahuac and Frio formations, quartz-rich clastic sands deposited in coastal plain and delta environments. The storage complex spans roughly 1,350 ft of gross section with the top of the confining zone at approximately 5,400 ft TVDSS, and injection intervals falling between roughly 6,100 and 7,700 ft at the reference stratigraphic well (Pelican MLR 004).
